Western countries, the United States , the United Nations along with European Union are enforcing trade embargo’s and trade sanctions with Iran due to the countries refusal to stop nuclear enrichment. The governments will aim to penalize transactions with the central bank of Iran , medicines, aircraft parts and only continue oil related business transactions. As discussed in class a trade embargo is the banning of trade with a specific country or product, so that foreign governments in this case the Iranian government will change their decisions about the nuclear bomb. The international atomic energy agency has fear that they can not detect fast enough, since Iran is seeking the ability to produce many WGU. From 2006-2010 the UN Security Council had hit Iran hard with many trade sanctions. Some states fear that aggressive moves may cause retaliation. Some countries like China & Russia are reluctant towards supporting the UN sanctions, mainly because Iran is the major oil producing country. China and Russia do not want to loose that major trade resource instead they want to obtain as much oil as possible. This will become an international business issue if Iran decides to restrict oil trade with western countries. That would be a huge disaster!!!!
I think that there is a huge possibility that Iran will strike against Israel if they are planning to create an atom bomb. Israel should start preparing with the help of the U.S because it is possible that Iran will have a surprise break out. Sanctions are not enough to convince the Iranian government to halt their decisions. Western countries have been negotiating and making deals with Iran for a long time so I think it is time to change their approach, and possibly use a matter of force before things get out of hand. The only problem which makes many countries reluctant is oil. Iran does provide many countries with this important resource; so many countries do not want to loose this trade. Though my question is that Iran is not the only country to make the nuclear bomb, so why do the major power countries discriminating against Iran ? Or is it a question of is it in the wrong hands?
What do you guys/girls think?

Thinking about another war is scary, hopefully the trade embargo with Iran will decrease the possibility of a nuclear warfare. Hopefully China and Russia can find an alternative to the oil as opposed to trading with Iran. Two of the most powerful countries can find an alternative source, Canada has oil sands anyway so trade with us and boost our economy. I believe countries are afraid of Iran because there have been racial comments towards those people. In my opinion Iran should just stop trying to force a war and be a neutral country.
ReplyDeleteBefore I even comment on the article, I would like to make a tip for future posts. Please try to adjust the background or the text color choice of the blog because it is hard to read the information due to the dark grey background.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, this was a fantastic choice of an article. This article touched upon quite a few of the key elements which we learned in the course such as trade embargo's, trade sanctions and trade wars. I think that this is a very controversial issue because there is no real right answer? It's all just a matter of perspectives. I personally think that China and Russia should also stop trading with Iran and try to cripple the country's economy and thus stop the development of the nuclear weapon. Right now, Iran’s main source of income is from the oil economy and if China and Russia find another country for oil such as Saudi Arabia or even Canada, Iran’s economy with be greatly affected and thus would send a more effective message? The only problem with my suggestion is that, it also has the potential to cause greater problems and maybe even escalate to a war between Iran and the superpower countries. I think the main cause of the problem is that, Israel and other countries fear that it is unsafe for Iran to hold such a deadly force. The government of Iran is pretty unstable and if they plan to attack Israel, things could go haywire as different countries would then join alliances and potentially start a world war 3. Countries are scared of the nuclear project of Iran because a power such as nuclear weapons in the wrong hands can be deadly.
Hey Dpac thanks I know, I wasn't even sure if it got posted my compuer froze. I should change the font color now. THANKS
DeleteWow, I didn't know about Iran creating a nuclear bomb...
ReplyDeleteSo in my opinion, yea there are other countries with Nuclear bombs such as the United States but like what you said Hima, I think the reason why the UN is taking such measures like enforcing trade embargo's is because they feel that the bomb/weapons are in the wrong hands. If you look at it from Iran's perspective I guess they do have reasons for releasing that Nuclear bomb considering what has been going on in their country lately and what the United States have been doing to them. However, if all countries including Russia and China don't stop trading with Iran then the whole point of a trade embargo would be useless. China and Russia still wanting to trade with Iran because of their oil shows Iran that they have something high in demand and precious the rest of the world wants, oil. This gives Iran an upper hand on things, Oil & and Nuclear weapons.
I won't add too much to this discussion because it seems like you guys have it well under way and have made great points. As feedback for an initial post, amazing job Hima at not only educating the class on an intrumental current event/international news, but identifying and explaining concepts learned in class. This is a perfect example of how trade embargos/trade sanctions can be used between nations. That being said, as I always say in class, business (at it's core) is quite simple and logical (that's what's great about it). Nations often act just the same way as humans do - in this case, most (or all know) they should immediately stop supporting Iran (ie. don't do business with them) in support of the greater good. But there will always be those couple of individuals (countries in this case) who don't follow suit and whom will do what's best for them (China and Russia as examples you have stated). I hope (and pray) for positive outcomes. We should keep a close eye on how this unfolds...maybe Hima can provide an update to this blog near the end of the course.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Iran claims that their creating a BOMB for PEACEFUL purposes is not quite believable to be honest. This can be the start up to something dangerous due to the amount of damage this bomb can cause. Also can be seen as a potential threat. And they do have the potential to target Israel. This is actually a very interesting article, i never heard about this till now..
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of people creating a bomb to promote peace. Usually, bombs are used in war to cause chaos. I also hope that the trade sanctions and embargoes from the UN and the European Union will decrease the nuclear enrichment in Iran. I think that all Western countries accept China and Russia will support the trade sanctions and embargoes because like you said, China and Russia rely on oil from Iran. If they support these embargoes and sanctions, they will not obtain oil. That would be a major problem.
